A superb example of original Clarice Cliff pottery, this Shape 278 vase is decorated in the colourful Autumn Crocus design and dates from circa 1929.
The vase brings together a distinctive Clarice Cliff form with the vibrant floral decoration of the Crocus design. Its bold use of colour and stylised decoration perfectly captures the creative character of Clarice Cliff’s work during the late 1920s and the emerging Art Deco period.
The combination of the Shape 278 form and Autumn Crocus decoration gives this piece considerable visual appeal. Viewed as part of a wider collection or displayed individually, the vase provides an excellent example of the imaginative shapes and decorative treatments that have made Clarice Cliff ceramics so enduringly collectable.
Dating from circa 1929, it would make a particularly attractive addition to a collection of early Clarice Cliff pottery, Crocus pieces or numbered vase shapes.
