A beautiful example of original Clarice Cliff pottery, this Bonjour sugar sifter is decorated in the vibrant Autumn Crocus design and dates from circa 1928.
The distinctive Bonjour form provides an elegant setting for the colourful Crocus decoration, creating a piece that immediately captures the bold and imaginative character of Clarice Cliff’s work.
The stylised floral decoration and confident use of colour associated with the Crocus design have become synonymous with Clarice Cliff pottery. Combined here with the unusual sugar sifter form, they create a particularly attractive example of British Art Deco tableware.
Dating from the mid-1930s, this piece would make an appealing addition to a collection of Clarice Cliff Crocus pottery, Bonjour forms or decorative tableware from the period. The sugar sifter form also offers collectors something a little different from the more commonly encountered plates, bowls and vases.
Its combination of distinctive shape, colourful decoration and period character also makes it an attractive standalone display piece.
